In the Heights Gets Ready to Hit the Road

The Tony Award-winning tuner In the Heights might be about a very specific part of New York, but that doesn’t mean its themes—love, family and where you’re from—don’t have appeal everywhere else in the country. The groundbreaking hip-hop and Latin music infused production officially takes off for its first national tour on October 27, kicking off its traveling run at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in Florida. Broadway.com dropped in on creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, creative teamers Andy Blankenbuehler, Thomas Kail, Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman, and the whole touring cast (including new Usnavi, fast-rapping cutie Kyle Beltran) during its whirlwind rehearsal process as New 42nd Street Studios in New York for a sneak peek at what audiences across the country will get from the smash hit.
